Opera Worcester are looking for new singers to join their summer production of The Merry Widow.
This production will celebrate the society’s 70th year and it promises to be a glorious show!
Chairman Caroline Causier comments:
“This lighthearted operetta is filled with lovely melodies. There are lots of roles but also terrific chorus numbers and set pieces.
We want to use the show to welcome new members and also hope that, after the last two years when we haven’t been able to get together, some of our long-standing members will join us again for what promise to be a very special production and a return to the stage for the society.
We are holding open auditions for named roles on 30th January but for anyone just wanting to enjoy a great sing in the chorus or simply to find out more about, please just come along to our first rehearsal on 31January at St Marks Church Hall, Bath Road, Worcester at 7.30pm, when our director and musical director will be talking about the show.”
Caroline adds:
“There are also other ways in which people can get involved if they don’t fancy actually being on the stage. We are a friendly society and we can always use non acting and singing members to work backstage or help with wardrobe and props, publicity or front of house. “
Transplanted to the 1930s, this production of The Merry Widow has been re-imagined by professional director Anthony Ravenhall and set in the nightclub, Maxim’s, where all the action will take place
Musical Direction is by Wilhelm Theunissen, and the soloists and chorus will be accompanied by a string quartet.
Open auditions for roles will take place on SUNDAY 30th JANUARY 2022. Anyone interested in auditioning or finding out more about the production should contact chairman@operaworcester.uk for details
