After changing its name in 2017 from Great Witley Operatic Society to Opera Worcester, the society is renowned for its first-class productions earning it many plaudits.

The society attracts singers from all over the Midlands from talented amateurs to professional and semi-professional performers, including aspiring young singers who have since gone on to begin their professional careers.

In recent years the society has expanded its repertoire to include opera. Over the last 5 years it has added Carmen, The Magic Flute, The Marriage of Figaro, Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci to its repertoire. However, in past years it has also performed Gilbert and Sullivan operettas and musicals.

It’s production in 2022 straddles 2 genres by offering Lehar’s glorious operetta The Merry Widow, directed and re-imagined by professional director Anthony Ravenhall, with musical direction by Wilhelm Theunissen and featuring a professional string quartet.

The 70th birthday year will also be celebrated concerts and workshops which are currently being planned.
