In the European Principality of Marsovia, they are undergoing somewhat of a crisis! One of the country’s principal landowners and bankers has died, leaving his fortune to his recently acquired young wife. She in turn has left for Paris, where the young men of that city of romance are all vying for her hand. Should she marry a Frenchman, or indeed any foreigner, her money will not only leave Marsovia, but leave it broke! But the Grand Duke hatches a cunning plan, he immediately commands the Marsovian Ambassador in Paris to find her a new suitable husband, Marsovian of course! Amongst the glamour of the fashionable Cafe Maxim’s, trysts are arranged, deception is rife and sleight of hand (or fan!) is the order of the day. Can Ambassador Popoff arrange a suitable match or will true love succeed where duty and honour cannot?

Welcome to the Cafe Maxim, where with an on-stage Musical Ensemble, this version of the popular Operetta, by noted Librettist Basil Hood (adapted by Anthony Ravenhall), Opera Worcester will celebrate their recent 70th Birthday.
